Job Description Summary The Stony Brook Youth Homework Assistant will lead a group of 20-24 elementary students (3rd -6th grade) through two hours of structured academic time with a focus on homework assistance.
The Youth Homework Assistant will have experience working with elementary aged youth and have a special interest and/or expertise in Math and Reading/Language Arts.

00 pm, Monday-Thursday Job Description Meet with identified students 2 hours per day, 4 times per week for math and reading/language arts assistance.
Work with Stony Brook Community Network Manager to determine program direction, curriculum and reporting, and Fairfax County Grant Outcome requirements.
Conduct pre and post math and reading assessments.
Maintain a file at Stony Brook on each student with i-Ready assessment results, student interests and goals, attendance, tutor schedule, and books read.
Review pre-assessments to identify students for math and reading tutoring.
Keep accurate attendance records and provide copy to Stony Brook Community Network Manager weekly.
Youth Homework Assistant will plan ahead of time to ensure that sessions maximize students' on task learning.
The Youth Homework Assistant is expected to keep lesson plans and note materials used as well as student progress/reports.
Continually consult with Stony Brook Community Network Manager and provide updates on student progress as well as concerns.
If possible, give the staff as much advance notice if you are going to miss a session.
Be available for meetings and trainings with ECD staff via in person or on conference calls (usually 1X per month).
Ensure that each student have a personal reading notebook to keep materials and completed work.
Meet with Community Network Manager and other After School staff periodically to plan and identify successes and challenges Student Goals Students will increase their math and reading level based on identified target gains using i-Ready.
(Assessments to be kept in student tutor's file.
Conducted September, January/February, and May).
Students will increase skill level in deficit area as measured by the i-Ready pre and post (Tutor focus should be on i-Ready deficit areas).
Individual goals will be written for each student based on their i-Ready skills profile.
Students will choose to attend regularly - minimum 90% attendance (keep attendance records) Students will report increased math and reading skill, confidence (student interview).
Qualifications:
Youth Homework Assistant should be a certified teacher and currently work in the local school and have a special interest and/or expertise in Math and Reading/Language Arts.
Effective written and verbal communication skills Good role model for youth Tolerance and openness to different world views and sensitivity to other cultures and languages Ability to problem solve; to see solutions and opportunities as well as obstacles Ability to work independently and as a team member Willingness to learn; to accept supervision and direction Dependability in reporting to work on time and assuming assigned responsibilities Good interpersonal relationship skills Knowledge of positive classroom management strategies preferred Degree preferred.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
