Education Manager

The American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) seeks an experienced and resourceful individual who will oversee the conferences and events hosted by the organizationThis person will be innovative, detail-oriented, mission-driven, culturally sensitive, and excited about the opportunity to lead the programming of AAPORs eventsThis is a new position for the organizationAs such, the person in this role will have the opportunity to help build processes that will help shape a successful future for the organizationPrimary Functions Responsibilities include managing the programming for the AAPOR annual conference and other association events as they occurThis includes overseeing the abstract submission collection and review process, supporting volunteer committee members in creating additional event content and programming, coordinating all speaker solicitation, development, and managementAnnual Conference Oversee the abstract management system as well as the submission review process for the annual conference.
Manage speakers for the annual conference; answer questions, proactively help speakers organize and plan their sessions, assist first-time presenters, ensure the experience is positive, etc.
Liaise with a contracted logistics coordinator to ensure all AV, rentals, catering, travel, vendors, shipping, and staff schedules align with conference needs.
Work closely with the Conference Committee Chair and Associate Chair to develop the schedule, plan special events, stay on deadline, and perform other content-related duties.
Coordinate conference travel for the Executive Council, staff, speakers, and award winners and communicate needs with a contract logistics coordinator.
Assist volunteers with the management of auxiliary events at the annual conference, including association-wide social events and informal meet-ups.
Draft and analyze post-event evaluations.
Assist with drafting and editing of print and digital conference materials.
Prepare library of documentation for post-event viewingOther AAPOR Events Develop event schedules for one-off education programs with the assistance of committee volunteers.
Oversee event speakers including outreach, speaker agreements, and day-of assistance.
For virtual events, manage the Zoom platform to host practice sessions, record events, and track participation.
Assist in the development of new AAPOR programming aimed at increasing engagement with students and early-career individualsOther Responsibilities Serve as a staff liaison to the Conference Committee including scheduling and participating in meetings, generating suggestions for task execution, and other general support as neededThe successful candidate will:
Have experience in education and speaker management; abstract/submission management experience a plus.
Be proficient with Zoom and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Have at least three years of experience in association or nonprofit event or program management; Academic and/or research conferences and events, preferred.
Have excellent organization skills.
Be a superior multitasker, managing several projects and multiple timelines simultaneously.
Be able to comfortably manage many details with great attention to detail.
Have experience working with engaged volunteers.
Be required to travel at least once per year.
Ideally, located in the Washington, DC area or ability to be in the Alexandria office one day per week.
Have a bachelors degree.
Be a proactive, take-charge personAAPOR has a small staff, and all employees need to take full ownership of their role with little oversight.
Be excited at the prospect of and enjoy working with a small staff.
Be comfortable with and enthusiastic about taking on new projects.
Have superior communication and problem-solving skills.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
