LPN OR Fellow (Alexandria Hospital)

The LPN OR Fellow functions primarily in surgeries and invasive procedures for all age groups of patients for the perioperative and procedural areas; functions in other areas based on competency level within and outside the perioperative and procedural areas.
The LPN OR Fellow will communicate effectively and work cooperatively with others while having respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines.
This role will use an integrated approach toward achieving desired patient outcomes while ensuring improvements in practice settings by assuming responsibility for self-development in lifelong learning, and will demonstrate a knowledge of quality improvement initiatives and participate in performance improvement activities.
Practicing under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse and preceptor to achieve desired patient outcomes.
Job ResponsibilitiesFunctions under the direction of the RN, independent Practitioner or preceptor in providing patient care, emotional support and problem-solving, all -in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policies, procedures, guidelines, and protocols.
Assists in tasks at the sterile field under the direct supervision of the preceptor in an operating room including passing supplies, equipment, or instruments, sponging, or suctioning an operative site, preparing, and cutting suture material, transferring, and irrigating with fluids, management of medications, handling specimens, and assist in counting supplies and instruments with the circulating nurse (RN).
Recognizes, intervenes, and reports situations which impede patient safety.
Safeguards the privacy of patients.
Maintains confidentiality relating to patients.
Aware of patient's rights and legal, moral, and ethical implications of actions.
Functions as part of healthcare team.
Works cooperatively with perioperative team members to ensure that all patient care needs are met.
Attends and participates in staff meetings and contributes to problem identification and resolution.
Supports additional project and duties as assigned.
Additional RequirementsWhat You Need:
Education:
Graduate of an accredited LPN school.
Certifications:
BLS Certification (from the American Heart Association)Licensure:
Eligible for licensing in the commonwealth of Virginia as a LPNSkills:
Proficient in English, verbal and written communication skills and computer skills required.
Recommended Skills Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (Acls) Basic Life Support Communication Confidentiality Ethics Nursing Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
