Large Patent and Trademark Law Firm in Alexandria,

is seeking an experienced Litigation Specialist/Secretary to provide support to attorneys, clients, experts and outside counsel.
Position Description:
-Accurately prepare and handle court filings, discovery and correspondence, including typing, editing, formatting, proofreading and cite checking documents; electronic filing of same (at District Court and Federal Circuit levels) and effect service of same on opposing counsel
-Download, scan, fax, and email pleadings and correspondence
-Maintain and update electronic files, including saving all related documents into appropriate document management system directories
-Read case-related pleadings and correspondence to maintain a base knowledge of the case status and identify upcoming action items; review of email accounts (IP and attorneys, where rights are granted)
-Set up and assist in coordinating depositions, including obtaining court reporter/videographer; coordinating conference room reservations, meals, beverage setup, and all other aspects of depositions and any necessary follow-up and support as needed by paralegals regarding transcripts, exhibits, erratas, etc.; coordinate same with paralegals; make travel arrangements, including hotel and flight/train arrangements as well as obtaining any necessary cash advances
-Request, set up and maintain opinion and prosecution files; learning and assisting in all areas of patent prosecution practice; work with other firm departments (accounting, patent processing) for billing matters, docketing matters, prosecution matters, etc.
-Daily monitoring of attorney's docket
-Maintain attorney's working set of litigation materials upon request (e.g., binders for pleadings, discovery, expert reports, summary judgment, correspondence, etc.)
-Create and maintain case information sheets, pleadings, and discovery templates on specific cases
-Prepare Conflict Checks
-Provide assistance to paralegals, as necessary, on all aspects of a case, including document production, electronic document review systems, and trial support on-site and at trial as required
-Proofread pre-bills prior to submitting to attorney for review; send out finalized bills
Requirements
Summary:
-Minimum three years related Litigation experience required
-Knowledge of PTO PAIR, Lexis, Pacer, ESpacenet and/or PRPS is preferred to locate and obtain pleadings, litigation histories, copies of patents, file histories, USPTO documents, foreign references, file histories, articles and books
-Detailed knowledge of the litigation process from filing of the complaint through trial or settlement, and post-trial procedures such as appeals
-Ability to use firm-specific software and hardware, including internet-based large file transfer utilities/systems, digital dictation equipment, etc., and knowledge of docketing/information management system (OPTMS) is preferred
-Experience with accounting databases preferred
-Excellent communication skills to interact with all levels of staff, clients and outside counsel
-Ability to type a minimum of 50 wpm

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
