ASCD, a progressive education association, is seeking an experienced and resourceful professional to join the production arm of our Creative Services team. The Production Specialist works with internal clients to manage the production lifecycle of all programs, products, services, member benefits, and marketing and promotional materials for the organization. This position advises staff o n production timelines; monitors project statuses and enforces project deadlines; identifies qualified vendors; monitors vendor performance; and buys printing, prepress, mailing and other related services.
In this role, the ideal candidate will:
Create accurate schedules for all production phases of complex, multi-faceted projects.
Manage a large volume of active projects at various stages with multiple components and varying levels of complexity.
Closely monitor those schedules and collaborate with staff at all levels to ensure timely and effective delivery of final products.
Select appropriate vendors to produce assigned project components. Develop RFQs, evaluate vendor bids, produce service orders, and contract with the most appropriate vendor.
Evaluate and process vendor invoices and calculate unit costs.
Oversee the mailing of member benefits and marketing materials.
Keep informed of how best to adapt internal processes based on changes in technology, publishing, and production.
Requirements:
Successful candidates will have a bachelor's degree in a related discipline or have related experience with a minimum of three years' experience in publishing or printing. Ideally, we're looking for a background in print production and product/project management. A higher level degree may substitute for years of experience.
Candidates must have a strong knowledge of production and publishing that includes an understanding of prepress, printing processes, electronic publishing processes, paper stocks, as well as basic knowledge of graphic design, typography, and desktop publishing principles, techniques, and software (in both a Mac and PC environment).
