Position Title: Patent Agent / Technical Advisor

Summary:
Prominent Intellectual Property (IP) Law Firm in Alexandria, Virginia is seeking a Patent Agent or Technical Advisor to draft patent applications. This role involves working directly with clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies engaged in protecting new inventions, to startups working on cutting edge technologies. Applicants will be exposed to a variety of technologies and will be working directly with inventors to draft detailed patent applications covering the inventors' inventions.
Position Description:
- Draft US patent applications
- Prosecute patent applications in a variety of core technical areas
- Assist clients with management of patent portfolios and provide recommendations regarding prosecution strategies
- Routinely conduct examiner interviews with the USPTO to expedite prosecution
- Prepare responses to outstanding communications from the USPTO in a timely manner
- Conduct invention disclosure teleconferences with inventors
- Perform complex legal analysis including freedom-to-operate and patentability analysis
- Participate in invention disclosure teleconferences
Qualifications
Summary:
-Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred
-Minimum one year related experience drafting patent applications
-Superior technical, writing, communication and analytical skills, as well as the ability to thrive in a team environment are necessary
-Experience in drafting US patent applications required
-Experience in Web technologies, memory systems, procedural and object-oriented programming, APIs, computer graphics, search systems, geographical information systems, data mining, mobile application development and/or wireless technologies is an asset
The firm offers substantial in-house training in addition to a competitive compensation package. Applicants will work one-on-one with a variety of Partners and Associates to hone their drafting skills while learning a variety of drafting techniques.
